The Astoria Center of Israel asks you to donate urgently needed Disaster Relief Funds for victims of the devastating Haitian earthquake
January 2010 – Inspired as always by our glorious holy Jewish tradition and our magnificent generous American heritage, we offer our help to those now in desperate and urgent need as Haiti deals with overwhelming tragedy as a result of the massive earthquake on January 12th. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and family members.
UJA-Federation of New York is working on a relief effort with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), an overseas beneficiary agency. Donations for Haiti can now be made through a special JDC fund. UJA-Federation is working closely with JDC to determine what kind of humanitarian aid will be required and how it can help raise the
necessary funding. In addition, UJA-Federation is monitoring the situation along with its network of agencies to see what other kinds of aid will be needed. “JDC will leverage its strong partnerships in the region to respond quickly and compassionately to the needs of those affected," said Steven Schwager, JDC's chief executive officer. "Now and in the months
to come, JDC will provide both immediate relief as well as long-term assistance to help the Haitian people rebuild their lives."

The American Red Cross is accepting relief donations for the Haitian earthquake disaster.

If you prefer, you may bring your checks to the Astoria Center of Israel in an envelope marked “Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund”. We will collect them and then send them in the coming days to either of the above recipients with an accompanying letter on our synagogue letterhead.
